The Civic Federation have today (16th September 2013) been officially informed by Councillor Colin Woodward, in his role as chair of the Hockerill Residents' Association, that the Hockerill Residents' Association has not renewed its BSCF membership and has requested it be removed from the BSCF website.
Proposals for a new super-surgery at the Silver Leys site (on the Hadham Road opposite the rugby club) have been rejected by the Planning Inspector. The Inspector's decision is supported by the BSCF and is in line with the decision of EHDC's Development Control Committee made in 2012 to refuse planning permission.
We are delighted that the Inspector recognised that good accessibilty is essential for a medical centre and, as we saw when we were present at his site visit, it took him a brisk 15-20 minute walk up hill from the town centre to get there. It was because of poor accessibility that he rejected the Silver Leys proposal as unsustainable. We hope that the South Street practice will now look at the alternatives with an open mind. There is already a suitable site with planning permission just to the south of the town centre. And once the outcome of our judicial review is decided, Charringtons House may well be available as a conversion opportunity.
